Strigidae Bubo: the CAL
Here we are again, same crochet channel. Each week I am finding it harder and harder to come up with a small headline blurb to get everyone excited. I normally try to keep them short and sweet, but even those are getting more difficult.
This week we are beginning the change from a round blanket to a square. This is a slow process, and we will be at it for a few weeks. This week the most difficult thing you will face is lining up the eyes to the corners to keep everything in line.
Bubo grows by six rounds this week.

Round 44 color 1
Join with a standing BPdc around any st. BPdc around next 339 sts. Join to the first st with a slst. FO.

**Find the center sts**
Spread your work out on a large surface and smooth it flat. This is easier when done on carpet or fabric surface that allows the yarn to “stick.”
Using a broomstick, string, or tape measure make a line between the eyes from top to bottom. Mark the st at the center of the top. [Count 84 sts, mark the next st] 3 times. Use 2 pieces of yarn to line up top and bottom stitches and side to side stitches, adjust markers until the eyes are centered and aligned making sure each stitch marker remains in the 85th st from the last marker. You will only be using the top center marker, but to check for center alignment you must mark the 4 axis.
Round 45 color 4
Join with a standing sc in the marked st at the top center above the eyes. Sc in next 38 sts. *Sk 3 sts, ([trcl, ch1] 3 times, trcl) in next st (this is the start of the corners). Sk 3 sts, sc in next 78 sts* 4 times, omitting last 39 sts. Join to the first st with a slst. FO.

The trcl of R45 at the start of each shell has a st in (second leg of the sc2tog) AND around it (FPhdc).
The trcl of R45 at the end of each shell is only worked with the FPhdc leg of the (FPhdc, sc)tog st.
Join with a standing sc in the second st before any shell. *Sc2tog over next 2 sts. FPhdc around the trcl, 2sc in ch1 sp, FPhdc around trcl, 4sc in ch1 sp. FPhdc around trcl, 2sc in ch1 sp, (FPhdc, sc)tog with the first leg around the trcl and the second leg in next st. Sc in next 76 sts* 4 times, omitting last st. Join to the first st with a slst. FO.
