Fried Egg Potholder

Egg it Up

The Fried Egg Potholder was the first pattern I ever wrote. It is a very simple design with a very short list of supplies. All you need is 20 yards of 100% cotton yarn (I used Lilly Sugar n' Cream yellow), a full ball of 100% cotton yarn (I used Lily Sugar n' Cream soft ecru), an H hook, scissors, and a darning needle.

The construction is simple. You make two copies of the same pattern worked in the round. There's nothing fancy to it, and no tricky stitches to slow you down.

The final round is worked through both layers to stitch them together for a thick potholder to protect your hands or counter tops. This is a single sitting project start to finish. If you're new to my designs this is a perfect place to start getting familiar with my writing style and the layout I use in paid patterns.

The Pattern

**Make 2**

Round 1 color 1

Make magic circle

Ch3, counts as dc, 11 dc inside mc. Join to the top of the ch3 with a slst. DO NOT FO.

12 dc

Round 2

Ch3, counts as dc, dc in same st. 2Dc in next 11 sts. Join to the top of the ch3 with a slst. DO NOT FO.

24 dc

Round 3

Ch2, counts as a hdc. *2Hdc in next st, hdc in next st* 12 times, omitting last hdc. Join to the top of the ch2 with a slst. FO.

36 hdc

Round 4 color 2

Join with a standing hdc in any st, hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st* 12 times, omitting last 2 sts. Join to the first st with a slst. DO NOT FO.

48 hdc

Round 5

Ch3, counts as dc, dc in next 2 sts. *2Dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts* 12 times, omitting last 3 sts. Join to the top of the ch3 with a slst. DO NOT FO.

60 dc

Round 6

Ch3, counts as dc, dc in same st. *Dc in next 4 sts, 2dc in next st* 12 times, omitting last 2 sts. Join to the top of the ch3 with a slst. DO NOT FO.

72 dc

Round 7

Ch3, counts as dc, dc in next 4 sts. *2Dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts* 12 times, omitting last 5 sts. Join to the top of the ch3 with a slst. FO.

Round 8

Ch1, 2sc in same st. Sc in next 6 sts.

2Hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts. Sc in next st, hdc in next st.

2Dc in next st. Sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts.

2Trc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts.

**Special Instructions**

Lay the second egg on top of the first, lining up the stitches. Work this round in corresponding stitches of BOTH layers.

Ch1, sc in same st. Sc in next 95 sts. Join to the first st with a slst. FO.
